Round 6 in review: Hastings Deering Colts

A new competition leader has emerged after Round 6 of the Hastings Deering Colts, after a few big wins and one upset changing up the standings.

Here is a wrap of Round 6 of the Colts competition.

Game of the week

The Central Queensland Capras and Norths Devils kept fans on the edge of their seats on Saturday, with a last-minute try to the Devils sealing a 26-26 draw at Browne Park.

In a tit-for-tat affair, Norths marked their arrival in Rockhampton with two quick tries to winger William Curran, who scored his double within the first eight minutes.

The Capras then hit back in similar fashion midway through the first half, finding tries through Jesuah Wini and Ryder Huth to send the game into the break with scores locked at 10-10.

The second half was a true seesawing affair - Reece Briers crossed for Norths, Marcus Tanner came in next for Central Queensland. Then Curran found his third to give Norths an edge.

But Capras were far from done, with Carsen Huth and Jake Barham crossing within the space of five minutes.

Capras held the lead at 26-20 but - as was the theme of the game - it was Norths' turn to deliver.

With a minute left on the clock, silky fullback Declan Haydon slipped through the defence to score under the posts, with five-eighth Briers adding the crucial two points.

Redcliffe and the Brisbane Tigers are the only two teams who remain undefeated after six rounds, with the Tigers sitting in second place following their win over Mackay on Saturday.

Former frontrunners, Tweed, slipped down to third after an upset loss to the Wynnum Manly Seagulls, who have had two wins and a bye over the last three weeks.
