Round 5 Saturday wrap: Devils run away with win over Capras

Norths Devils flyer Jordan Lipp scored a hat-trick as the Devils ran away 38-8 winners in Round 5 of the Hostplus Cup.

The Devils were dominant from the start and scored eight tries to the Capras' two to claim the two points in front of a sizeable crowd at Bishop Park.

Lipp said despite a late try from the Capras, he could not fault his team.

"I thought the boys started really well; we completed excellent in the first half, something we've been a little bit slow at in the last couple of weeks... we started really well," Lipp said.

"I think we won that game in the first half and our defence was excellent. Can't fault the boys."

Lipp, glad to be back in the starting team, said scoring three tries felt good, but the Devils middles were the ones to really step up against Central Queensland.

"Tries were good but our defence, I think that's what we can really take away from that," he said.

"We played a bit of variation there, a bit of tip on, Gerome (Burns), Jeremiah (Simbiken)... all of our middles, they got through a lot of work defensively and with the ball, so big credit to them."

Lipp said Capras were always tough opposition, so getting the win was a big positive moving forward.

"It was good... they were on top of the ladder, or near there... they've had some really good wins... they had a good win against Burleigh last week... they had a few players out with the Dolphins, but we know what Capras are like... they play for 80 and they're a really strong team so pretty happy with that win," Lipp said.

"I think we can take away a bit of confidence with our attack. We've been trying to work on a few things in the last couple of weeks and I think we nailed that tonight."

Elsewhere, Kurt Falls scored a double for Wynnum Manly Seagulls in their win over Townsville Blackhawks in Townsville.

Valynce Te Whare scored a late try for Redcliffe Dolphins in their tight tussle with Northern Pride to secure the win for his side.

And Cody Hunter scored a double during his side's big win over Souths Logan Magpies at Sunshine Coast Stadium.

There are two more Round 5 games to play out tomorrow.

Western Clydesdales and Mackay Cutters will clash.

And finally, Ipswich Jets and Burleigh Bears will battle it out in the final game of the round.
