Rugby league is more than just a sport in Queensland – it’s a way of life.

That’s why the QRL’s newly-formed Maroons Foundation is stepping up to support community rugby league clubs affected by recent flooding in North Queensland.

With the backing of the Foundation, some of the biggest names in rugby league will travel across regional and rural cities and towns in Queensland, hosting community events and engaging with locals.

A key part of this effort includes a series of sausage sizzles where fans can meet QRL and Maroons representatives, sign up as Maroons members, and enter an exciting draw to win a brand-new Ford Raptor.

All proceeds from these events will go directly to the Maroons Foundation, which will in turn distribute funds to help community rugby league clubs and leagues get back on their feet in the wake of the widespread flooding.

The journey begins on Saturday in Townsville, where Queensland Rugby League (QRL) chief executive officer Ben Ikin will meet community leaders and address the media.

“The Maroons Foundation exists to give back to the game and the people who make it great,” Ikin said.

Our regional clubs have faced incredible challenges, and we want to do everything we can to support their rebuild.

“Whether it’s new facilities, equipment, or simply helping a club keep its doors open, every dollar raised will make a difference.”

From Townsville, the team will continue their journey across Queensland, stopping at various towns to rally support and generate financial assistance to clubs in need.

This grassroots approach will ensure that funds reach the communities that need them most, while reinforcing the deep connection between the Maroons and the people of Queensland.

The Foundation is already off to a flying start in its quest to rally behind the people of North Queensland, with major partner Westpac already committing a large sum.
