Round 2: Weekend Wrap - Junior Statewide Competitions

Round 2 of the Junior Statewide Competitions continued its momentum in just about every game over the weekend as an impressive five hat-tricks were scored across the state.

Notably, it was Yuri Dempsey’s effort that stood out for the Wynnum Manly Seagulls to defeat the strong sided Brisbane Tigers in the Mal Meninga Cup, presented by Ford, that gave the Seagulls their perfect start to the season. 

However, it’s the Mackay Cutters who currently sit on top of the leaderboard with their convincing 52 points differential after the opening two rounds of the competition.

Ellyjah Birve and Khan Turnbull each scored twice in a high-scoring match, highlighting their offensive skills in front of their Sunshine Coast Stadium home crowd.

Mackay Cutters 32 def Townsville Blackhawks 4

Joseph Doyle’s two tries helped the Cutters dominate the Blackhawks, demonstrating their strong teamwork at BB Print Stadium in Mackay.

Northern Pride 26 def CQ Capras 22

Taakoi Benioni’s hat-trick secured a close win for the Pride, his undying efforts on attack proving to be the difference-maker at Emu Park.

Marsden State High School saw Javon Andrews lead the offensive charge, scoring twice in a commanding win for the Seagulls.

A thrilling draw with both teams scoring five tries each gave the fans at Bishop Park an exciting and competitive game.

The Wynnum-Manly Seagulls were defeated at home, as Saupo-Mina Toeleiu’s two tries led the Tigers to a big win.

Ella Webb and Jennifer Kimber lit up BB Print Stadium, each scoring twice for the Cutters, putting their offensive strength on continual display.

Sunshine Coast Falcons 14 def Ipswich Jets 10

The Falcons locked down Sunshine Coast Stadium. A close match with Jennifer Ladewig scoring the decisive try to secure a narrow victory for the Falcons.

Five different try-scorers powered the Seagulls to victory, showcasing their team depth at Marsden State High School.
