Queensland Rugby League has confirmed a blockbuster weekend of preliminary finals action in the Hostplus Cup and BMD Premiership.
Four teams remain in premiership contention in both competitions, which will draw to a fascinating close on QRL Grand Final day at Redcliffe’s Kayo Stadium on Saturday, September 26.
In the Hostplus Cup, the first preliminary final will be between the Sunshine Coast Falcons and Central Queensland Capras, who eliminated the Ipswich Jets from the finals race with a gritty 28-24 victory in Rockhampton.
The winner will earn the right to play either the Redcliffe Dolphins or Burleigh Bears.
The Bears survived a close call against the gallant Townsville Blackhawks, who came from 10 points down at half-time.
Burleigh eventually prevailed 12-10, setting up a massive preliminary final showdown against the Dolphins at Redcliffe on Sunday.
This weekend’s BMD Preliminary finals will see the Norths Devils host the Souths Logan Magpies at Premiers’ Park on Saturday, and the Brisbane Tigers up against the Burleigh Bears the following day.
Both the Devils and Tigers will be fresh and ready to fire after watching the opening week of finals matches unfold.
The Bears powered their way to a 44-0 win over the Mackay Cutters, while the Magpies are also battle hardened after beating the Ipswich Jets 30-16.
