Queensland Rugby League (QRL) acknowledges the contribution of long-serving administrator Danny McGuire, who has today announced his resignation from the QRL Board.
As the Chair of the Central Region since 2013, McGuire has helped drive positive outcomes for community rugby league across the QRL’s largest geographical region and second biggest participation base.
From Warwick to Winton through to major regional rugby league strongholds like the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Rockhampton, McGuire has worked alongside hundreds of volunteers and administrators each year.
With a passion for providing more opportunities for participants across all sectors of the game, McGuire has supported local clubs and leagues, as well as major regional carnivals and cultural events like the 47th Battalion, Adrian Vowles Cup and Frank Fisher Cup.
McGuire, who completed his first tenure on the QRL board from 2006-2009 before commencing his second term in 2013, acknowledged the time was “right for change” following some health considerations.
In a decorated career of rugby league administration, McGuire served as the Chair of the Wide Bay Region for nine years.
He has also been a coach and administrator with Sunshine Coast junior club Kawana – where he is a Life Member – and has served as Chair of the Sunshine Coast Rugby League.
In 2010, he was inducted into the Sunshine Coast University Sports Hall of Fame for administrators.
Having served as a member of the QRL’s Participation Committee and the QRL Outback Committee, McGuire was also involved in the delivery of the QRL’s female strategy as well as the launch of the QRL motorhome that has significantly improved governance in outback leagues.
