The broadcasted match of Round 15 pits two seasoned Brisbane rugby league clubs against one another, as the Wynnum Manly Seagulls host the Redcliffe Dolphins this Sunday afternoon at BMD Kougari Oval.
Both teams are expected to be in the mix for September footy, and this bout will likely have a finals feel about it.
The Seagulls will be eager to amend their prior two performances against the Dolphins, with the baysiders being defeated by a combined total of 50 points in their last two outings against Redcliffe.
Both the Seagulls and the Dolphins have won four of their last five games.
Head-to-head it’s all Redcliffe with 36 wins from their 61 matches against the Seagulls.
The Seagulls however have been enjoying the home support, winning their last six matches in Manly West.
Last week epitomised the newfound freedom of play which seems to have coincided with the arrival of halfback Liam Sutton.
Sutton’s brilliance has also lifted the onus off fullback Ben Farr, who has been close to the competition’s premiere fullback in the four games since Sutton’s arrival.
Farr’s last two matches have seen him run for an enormous 428 metres, as well as scoring four tries and breaking 14 tackles.
Another dynamic in the Seagulls’ red hot backline is centre Delouise Hoeter, who has been in red-hot form, coming into this match fresh off a hat-trick the weekend prior.
Hoeter will be playing his 100th game for the Seagulls in the Hostplus Cup this Sunday.
The creativity doesn’t stop in the forward pack either, as Cameron Bukowski once more starts at number 9.
He may not be rewarded with try contributions in the stat sheet, but his quick thinking from dummy half and constant danger with the ball in both hands, opens space for his attacking outlets either side of him.
Bukowski has been on the field for 45 tries this year, with the Seagulls having only scored 19 tries with him off the field.
For the Dolphins, their starting fullback is Zacariah Miles, who has been a bright light in an up and down season for Redcliffe.
Miles was electric last weekend against the Tweed Seagulls, racking up two line breaks and showcasing blistering space as he cut up through the middle of the field.
The versatility of Miles as a player allows him to be effective whether he’s at fullback, wing or even coming off the bench to provide spark in attack.
The halves pairing for the Dolphins have also been damaging in the past month, with Dantoray Lui and Joshua James assisting 13 tries in their past four matches.
Both teams have plenty of strike and Sunday afternoon promises to be one of the best matches so far this season.
