Biography

Anthony Milford made his NRL debut for Canberra as an 18-year-old, and that same year represented Samoa in the Rugby League World Cup in Britain and France.

Milford was born in Brisbane, and played his junior rugby league with Souths Acacia Ridge.

In 2009, he played for the Queensland and Australian Under 15 Schoolboys sides, from Clairvaux MacKillop College at Mount Gravatt, before going on to represent Queensland Under 16s, while playing with Souths Logan Magpies.

Through Souths' pathways, Milford was signed by the Raiders, and enjoyed success with the Canberra's SG Ball (under 18) and under 20s teams in 2012.

He made his NRL debut for the Raiders, off the bench, in Round 5, 2013, and was selected to captain the Queensland Under 20s State of Origin side.

He played fullback for Samoa in the 2013 World Cup in Britain and France, taking on the goal kicking role and winning player of the match honours against Papua New Guinea and France. Samoa reached the quarter finals, only to be eliminated by Fiji.

Milford was used mainly at fullback by the Raiders, but also played five-eighth.

Guys like him and Alf have stuff coaches can’t coach. They have wonderful ability and they rise to the occasion.

Wayne Bennett Milford's coach at Brisbane Broncos

In 2015, he signed a four-year deal with the Brisbane Broncos, and played five-eighth in the 17-16 loss to North Queensland in the NRL grand final.

Milford made his State of Origin debut for Queensland in Game I of the 2017 series, after Johnathan Thurston was ruled out through injury. Milford played five-eighth alongside Cooper Cronk.

Milford was also selected on the interchange bench for the first game of the 2018 series. His club form was superb in 2018, and he won the Paul Morgan Medal as Broncos' Player of the Year.

At the start of the 2022 season, Milford had played 193 NRL games, crossing for 70 tries; kicking 36 goals and potting 15 field goals.
