On Tuesday 20th May, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie launched a free competition for Queenslanders to help select a new Maroons themed commemorative birth certificate.
Four designs have been released for the public to vote on, with Queensland’s favourite design to be made available in early July.
By selecting their favourite Queenslanders can go into the draw to win 2 tickets and travel to State of Origin Game 3. The competition will close on Friday 20th June.
Queensland star Corey Parker said he was excited to help launch the competition and urged all fans to jump online and make sure their design gets across the line.
“I’ve picked out my favourite but we’ll have to wait and see what the rest of the State has to say when the votes come in,” he said.
Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie said proceeds from the sale of certificates would go towards providing life event registration and certification services to remote and Indigenous Queenslanders.
“Just last month, the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) travelled to Doomadgee and issued 80 birth certificates, 30 of which were to people who had never had their birth registered before,” he said.
“Without birth certificates, kids can’t enrol in school, get licences or apply for passports- all important life experiences which ultimately open doors and provide opportunity.”
