THE Brisbane and District Women’s season is almost at the halfway mark, and with round 9 almost here, the competition is looking to get even harder and closer as teams gain experience and confidence each week.

In Division 1 this past weekend, Souths Logan once again showed their dominance in the competition, defeating Burleigh 18-0. Beerwah, who look to set to make waves this season, defeated North Ipswich, 20-8 and Carina, who once again have put vengeance on their last year’s biggest rivals, defeated Aspley 36-4.

Souths Logan sit at the top of the Division 1 competition ladder on 15 points – will we see yet another perfect undefeated season for Souths this year? Not if second on the competition ladder, Beerwah can help it, they sit only 2 points behind Souths on 13 points. Burleigh sit in third with 9 points, Carina and North Ipswich sit on an equal 5 points each and Aspley, who have struggled a bit with the first half of the season with no wins so far, sit on the bottom of the ladder on 1 point.

In Division 2, some close and brilliant games this past weekend, saw Waterford defeat Capalaba 30 – 14. Burpengary defeat Toowoomba 32 – 4. Wynnum Manly defeat West Inala 22 – 12 and the Swifts defeat Pine Rivers 24 – 20.

The Division 2 ladder could not be any closer, with 3 teams, Waterford, Burpengary and Toowoomba all sitting on top on an equal 10 points each. Pine Rivers and the Swifts are on an equal 8 points each.  Wynnum Manly sit in sixth on the ladder with 6 points, West Inala not far behind on 4 points and Capalaba sit at the bottom with currently no points.

Round 9 will kick off on the 14 June across both divisions. For Division 1, Aspley will take on Burleigh at Harry Kriby Park at 1:30pm. Carina will play North Ipswich at Leo Williams Oval at 4:30pm and Beerwah will take on Souths Logan in a top of the table clash at Beerwah at 7pm.

In Division 2, Wynnum will take on Toowoomba at Kitchener Park at 1pm. Capalaba will host to Pine Rivers at 1:30pm. West Inala will take on Waterford at JC Greenfield Complex at 1:30pm and the Swifts will travel north to take on Burpengary at 2:30pm.

This weekend coming the competition will have a break, but not for all the players as this weekend Southport will host the QRL Women’s State Carnival, with many of the competition players selected across all the teams competing this weekend. Good luck to all involved!
