THE Greater Brisbane Junior Rugby League’s Girls competitions celebrate the culmination of a great season of competitive football with their grand finals this Saturday, August 2.

The Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 age divisions will all feature in the a big day of football planned for Les Hughes Sports Complex, Bray Park.

The women’s game is going from strength to strength as evidenced by Queensland's recent Interstate Challenge win – and this will be a good chance to see some future stars in action. Entry to the ground will be $3.

The action kicks off at 9.30am with the Under 14 B grade final between Waterford Green and Goodna, while at 10.30am, Pine Central HS take on North Ipswich for the Under 14 A grade final.

The Under 16 final between Carina and Norths Ipswich will start at 11.30am; while the Under 18 final between Logan Brothers and Inala will conclude the day 12.30pm.

Under 14:

The Under 14 Girls competition had nine teams take part in their 10-week competition, seven from the Greater Brisbane area and two from the Ipswich area. It was decided that an ‘A’ grade final series would be contested by the top four, with a ‘B’ grade final contested by the teams in positions 5-8 to provide a “finals footy” experience for more of the players. Consideration is being given by the GBJRL to form an Under 14 Development Squad with the view of playing a representative game in September this year. This will provide a development pathway for the girls for the SEQ Division Under 16 team for the State Junior Championships in 2015.

Under 16:

The Under 16 Girls competition was formed with three original teams which increased to six teams, four Brisbane teams and two from the Ipswich area. Girls were selected from this competition to represent the Division at the State Carnival in Cairns where they achieved the following results: 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss in their 4 games over the week.

Under 18:

The Under 18 Girls comp also initially attracted just three original teams and grew to six teams representing all three areas within the SEQ Division; three teams from Greater Brisbane, two teams from the Gold Coast and one team from Ipswich.
