Rugby league at all levels celebrated and acknowledged the many roles women hold in the game with a number of special events.

Atherton hosted a Women in League function on Thursday night with a number of club stalwarts recognized for their tireless work over many years.

Special guests NRL Queensland Female Participation Coordinator Keeown Rawnsley and Renae Kunst (NRL Community Ambassador, Game Development Officer and Jillaroo) also attended a breakfast function in Cairns to thank women volunteers in the game.

On Friday, the Secondary School Girls Pat Bailey Plate Gala Day was held at Jones Park with 150 girls aged 12-18 years taking part.

The Cairns Combined team took out the Under 14 title with Innisfail taking out the Pat Bailey Plate (Under 16) with Innisfail also topped the scoreboard in the Under 18 comp.

Junior clubs acknowledged the great work by women in the game with the Cairns & District JRL Round 2 named the Women in League Round.

Ivanhoes Juniors also showed their support by donning the purple Women in League socks for the month of May.
