The Norths Devils were rewarded for their improving efforts these past few weeks with a 38-6 win over the CQ Capras in yesterday’s TV game played at Browne Park.

Devils coach Mark Gliddon said his side’s defence had been building over the past few weeks and the team had been working really hard on an area of the game that had been letting them down previously.

“We have been competitive the last few weeks,” Gliddon said.

“The only big loss we have had was against the Blackhawks; but they are the benchmark of the competition.

“(In) the game against the Jets (in Round 20), we were far off the mark.

“This week, we completed 19/20 sets and it was just so pleasing.

“After the final training session I spoke with our captain Brett and he said were on this week. The boys wanted it and they had been working for it.”

With a 20-6 score line at halftime, the Devils put on a further 18 points and kept the Capras scoreless in the second half.

However, the Capras a side who always make their opposition earn there wins and provided plenty of tests; mostly off the back of the performance of their Intrust Super Cup premiership winning half Matt Minto.

A young team who are lacking in experience, they lacked the polish to truly put pressure on the Devils when they got their opportunities.

Gliddon said he was impressed with Norths scrambling defence and was particularly pleased with how the team was starting to play.

“They were playing for each other and they played as a team rather than individuals,” he said.

“Every time someone did something good or bad there was support there for them.

“Our scrambling defence was great and we are slowly appearing and coming together as a team.”

After a great win, Gliddon thought the standouts of the team were XXXX man of the match Krys Freeman, captain Brett Greinke and halfback Liam Tyson.

“Krys has been very good. He was our hooker, but since we have moved him to the second row he has been very dominant and playing some really good footy,” Gliddon said.

“They were our three best players this week. They really dominated and competed hard for the win.”
