Thirty-four Under 13 rugby league players identified from the North Queensland Junior Rugby League Championships in June recently travelled to Townsville to be part of the inaugural Under 13 Mendi Group Marlins Development camp.

Players attended from Cairns, Mackay, Townsville, the Atherton Tablelands and Mount Isa. This camp was set up to replace the Under 13 Marlins team that in previous years travelled to the State Junior Championships.

The boys were put through their paces by experienced local and regional coaches with some special coaching sessions provided by Aaron Payne, coach of the Cowboys NYC from the North Queensland Cowboys and Kristian Woolf, the coach of the Mendi Townsville Blackhawks, with strength and conditioning advice provided by Blackhawks strength and conditioning manager James Moran.

The camp culminated with a match at Jack Manski Oval between the players with the result being a 12-all draw. The skill on display was of a high level and the boys were provided with programs to follow to help them progress as players in preparation for the 2018 season and future representative pathways.
