The last round of the Intrust Super Cup took the Ipswich Jets and CQ Capras to the home of the Gatton Hawks with both teams looking for a positive to end 2017.

Unfortunately for the Capras, they met a Jets side who were able to click to unleash some great attacking football for a 44-4 win.

It came from an unlikely source early when in the seventh minute, Jets’ front rower Nat Neale swooped on a loose ball and ran away to score the first try of the night

The Capras showed they also had fight in them when they let the ball do the work as far right as possible and Chanel Seigafo was able to score to narrow the scores to 6-4 after 13 minutes.

However, that was all the joy the Capras would see in the game as the Jets then took control.

Ipswich captain Dane Phillips placed a grubber through the line and following after it was Josh Seage who dived on the ball.

They then showed great vision to run it on the last play and from a nice inside ball, Phillips found Michael Purcell who scored his 23rd try in 2017.

With Jayden Connors having converted all three tries, the Jets had an 18-4 lead at halftime.

At the break, Jets coach Ben Walker spoke to his side about having fun in the second half and “playing footy”.

Marion Seve started the running for the Jets and he busted up field. When he came up to Tony Tumusa, he gave a pass to Julian Christian who went over for his second Intrust Super Cup try.

Christian was amongst the points again when he went from dummy half and 70m later; he scored his second try of the day.

Neale then decided he could also score a double – and from a kick and chase too. Neale followed his own kick and scored in the right hand corner and the Jets led 34-4 after 65 minutes.

The Capras thought they spotted an attacking chance; but it was quickly cancelled out by Christian; who again grabbed the ball and sped away to score under the posts and record a hat-trick.

Purcell was running to get his double, but instead found Seve to his inside and the Jets finished the night with another try in what was a successful night for them at Gatton.
