Why I didn't pick up Kevvie's call: Cherry-Evans

Back in the Queensland Maroons team for the first time since 2015, Daly Cherry-Evans has told why he initially screened coach Kevin Walters' calls.

"In previous years I've been close to getting back in the side and this year I was obviously in contention again for this game," the recalled Origin halfback said.

"Kevvie rang through and I had it in my head it was going to be another phone call telling me how close I was, but that it wasn't to be.

"I ignored the first couple of phone calls and then, after the third call, I thought something might be up.

In an upbeat chat with QRL Media, Cherry-Evans also discussed what representing his family name meant to him and why he had "learnt plenty of lessons".

On looking forward to Origin III, Cherry-Evans described it as "still very much a war of two states".
