Panthers earn spot to face Burleigh in decider

Defending premiers the Burleigh Bears will take on West Brisbane Panthers in Saturday’s SEQ Women’s Division 1 grand final after the Panthers upset Brothers Ipswich in their preliminary final yesterday.

Played at Pinklands Oval (Redlands RLFC) as part of a massive day of female rugby league; the Panthers were able to continue their recent winning run where they also upset the Easts Tigers a week earlier to remain in finals contention.

The Panthers lead 10-4 at halftime and were able to go on to win the match 16-12 after both sides scored three tries apiece - but the Panthers crucially were able to slot two goals.

They will come up against a well-drilled Burleigh Bears side who earned their spot in the decider a fortnight ago with an 18-6 victory over Ipswich Brothers in the major semi final.

Next weekend’s grand final will be played at Cbus Super Stadium as a curtain-raiser to the NRL match between the Gold Coast Titans and Penrith Panthers.

The gates will open at 12.25pm, with the match between Burleigh and the Panthers set to kick off at 12.30pm.

Tickets are available now and start from $16 via the Cbus Super Stadium website.

>>> The game will be broadcast live of Fox Sports on Channel 502.

A wrap of yesterday’s preliminary finals in the SEQ Women’s competition (Division 1, Division 2 and Division 3) will also be on QRL.com.au later this week.
