Mackay competition heating up

The Mackay and District Rugby League competition is heating up with the senior grand final expected to be fiercely contested at BB Print Stadium on Sunday, September 8.

Diehard fans and spectators have the opportunity to secure the best seat in the house for the grand final with gold, silver and platinum corporate box packages.

With only four rounds left in the competition, things are heating up especially in A Grade which is a close affair and is expected to go down to the wire.

The top five spots will be hotly contested by the six top teams and every weekend there are surprise results.

Whitsunday have been consistent and had only two upset losses with Souths being one of those last weekend. It was a great game right until the final minutes where they went down 12-22 and also went down to Magpies 20-24 in Round 6.

All season, defending premiers Wests have been strong having notched up seven wins and three losses.

Wests losses have been at the hands of ladder leaders Whitsunday (twice) and Magpies who share second spot with them. These sides are up against each other this weekend and will push one of the teams to outright second.

Souths share the second spot with Magpies and Wests have won seven and lost three as well. Souths have lost to heavy weights Whitsunday, Wests and Brothers.

Souths were the team to produce the biggest upset so far after they defeated Whitsunday last round.

Brothers and Sarina will battle it out for fifth spot on the ladder and need to work really hard to secure a spot in the semis.

It is hoped both teams will keep playing their best footy and continue adding points to the ladder.

Wests are currently on top of the Reserve grade ladder closely followed by Souths in second place who are four points clear of Sarina.

The Under 19 competition is equally close with Magpies currently leading the way, with Wests one point behind and Souths and Brothers in equal third position.

The women’s competition has really vamped up and is another tight competition.

Souths seem to be the most dominant with Sarina and Brothers hot on their heels.

This weekend's rounds will see some changes on the leader board as Wests take on Magpies who will be fighting for fifth spot.

Moranbah go up against Souths which could be anyone’s game as both are strong teams.
