QRL excited for statewide competitions launch

The Queensland Rugby League will launch its 2021 statewide competitions in Brisbane tomorrow as teams from the Intrust Super Cup and BHP Premiership competitions put the finishing touches to their pre-seasons.

Anticipation is building for Round 1 of the Intrust Super Cup, which kicks off next Saturday with seven highly-anticipated fixtures, while the BHP Premiership springs into action on April 10.

Three other statewide leagues – Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup, Cyril Connell Challenge and Harvey Norman Under 19 – commenced last weekend with 15 premiership games played across the state and northern New South Wales.

By the time the Hastings Deering Colts kicks off on the same day as the BHP Premiership, fans will be lapping up as many as 36 statewide competition games across the weekend.

More than 2300 players – from 20 clubs and 78 teams – will pull the boots on across the six competitions in 2021.

The launch, hosted by Nine's Wide World of Sports personality Peter Psaltis, will feature a number of key panel discussions with some of the statewide competitions' biggest names.

Karmichael Hunt (Souths Logan Magpies), Gerard Beale (Brisbane Tigers) and Sami Sauiluma (Burleigh Bears) will highlight their pre-season Intrust Super Cup success; meanwhile, Romy Teitzel (North Queensland Gold Stars), Asi Mafi (West Brisbane Panthers) and Georgia Hale (Tweed Seagulls) will share the excitement of relaunching the BHP Premiership after a rollercoaster 2020.

The Papua New Guinea Hunters will also detail their inspiring journey to relocate to the Gold Coast to be involved in this year's competition.
