Round 13 in review: Hastings Deering Colts

The Hastings Deering Colts returned with a bang in Round 13 after a two-week break from competition.

With just three weeks left until finals, all teams stepped up to deliver some thrilling performances and shocking upsets.

Here is a wrap of Round 13 of the Colts competition.

Game of the week

A top eight showdown between competition leaders Tweed Seagulls and the Redcliffe Dolphins was an absolute cracker on Saturday, setting a high standard for the upcoming finals series.

While the Dolphins put on more tries than the Seagulls at five to four, it was Elliott Speed's accuracy with the boot - including a successful penalty goal - that gave the away team the upper hand at Kayo Stadium.

The game ebbed and flowed in both directions, with each team taking the lead at different stages.

And it was the Dolphins who were in front with 10 minutes left on the clock at 22-18 before Tweed backrower Jesse Jackson stepped up to the plate in the 74th minute to give the competition leaders the two points.

Tweed remain on top of the ladder but are on the same points as second-placed Burleigh and the Brisbane Tigers in third. Redcliffe meanwhile stay in sixth with three weeks left until finals.

Mover of the week

Sunshine Coast didn't move on the ladder this week but they certainly made a statement with a strong win over the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

With four tries to three - and a field goal from Josh Chappell for good measure - the seventh-placed Falcons upset the Seagulls, who were in third and have now slipped down to fifth.

The Brisbane Tigers now sit in third after a bye.

Tweed meanwhile hung onto top spot with their two-point win over Redcliffe.
