The Roosters have locked up vice-captain Corban Baxter on a new three-year deal which will keep her at the club until the end of the 2026 NRLW season.
Baxter, who has represented New South Wales, Australia and the Māori All Stars, made her return to the NRL Telstra Women's Premiership last season following the birth of her youngest son, playing in all 10 matches and scoring seven tries.
“I’m thrilled to continue my journey with my Chookies family. The Roosters club means so much to me and I’m so proud that I’ll continue to be part of the team we have here for the next three years,” Baxter told the club website.
It follows the Roosters extending fellow backline talent Jayme Fressard through until the end of 2025, as well as adding young gun Tyra Ekepati on a deal which will see her play on a development contract in 2024 before graduating to the top squad the following year.
The Tricolours have also picked up Knights premiership-winning duo Tiana Davison and Jasmin Strange and extended three of their up-and-comers Tavarna Papalii, Aliyah Nasio and Imogen Hei.
Fressard hat-trick helps Roosters win
Wests Tigers meanwhile have announced the re-signings of Rikeya Horne, Losana Lutu, Salma Nour, Eliza Siilata, Jessica Kennedy and Imogen Gobran and the addition of Claudia Nielsen, Natasha Penitani and Harmony Crichton to their squad for 2024.
Teenage centre Crichton is the younger sister of three-time premiership winner Stephen, while Penitani will square off against older sister Tiana when the Tigers meet the Sharks.
Lutu, a Campbelltown junior, played a starring role in Wests Tigers first two victories in 2023 before injury brought a premature end to her season. One of the club’s development success stories, Losana has signed a long-term deal through until 2026.
Horne, who will enter her seventh season in the NRLW in 2024, and Nour, a Liverpool junior who debuted last season, have signed two-year deals.
Siilata, who was named rookie of the year in the club’s inaugural NRLW season, and fellow debutants Kennedy and Gobran have penned 12-month extensions.
Most of the club’s inaugural squad is retained for next season, including co-captains Kezie Apps and Botille Vette-Welsh, and 2023 Player of the Year Sarah Togatuki.
Star forward Grace Kemp has taken up her player option and will remain a Raider in 2024.
Kemp signed a two-year deal in the lead up to the club’s inaugural NRLW season and has elected to take up the option of a second year.
The 22-year-old rugby convert played all nine NRLW games for the Raiders in 2023 and says she can’t wait to be a part of the club again next season.
"I think this is something that definitely played on my mind during the season but as soon as I stepped into the Raiders facility it was not going to be a second thought," Kemp said.
“I do have a lot to work on and more things to learn but I’ve definitely got the people around me to support me with that.”
