The Adrian Vowles Cup kicks off in Charleville today as the small western Queensland town welcomes young boys and girls for an experience of a life-time.
The town has already doubled in size following the arrival of busloads of players, coaches, volunteers and parents, a sight Vowles will never get tired of.
“It’s a real experience for everyone involved,” Vowles told The Toowoomba Chronicle.
“The kids and the parents make great new friends during that time as well.
“In among all the footy they get to experience a bit of what it’s like to live out here in the country.
“Every year we have amazing volunteers working tirelessly to make sure it (the cup) is a success. Some of the volunteers still make the trip out here to help years after they were involved with teams and clubs.”
Competition matches will be played from today through until Sunday.
The Adrian Vowles Cup Facebook page is already filled with photos of excited youngsters in their club colours.
“Day 1 of the 2026 Adrian Vowles Cup is here!,” Brothers Junior Rugby League Toowoomba posted.
“Good luck to all our Brothers teams hitting the field today. Play hard, support each other and represent the club with pride. We’re all behind you and can’t wait to see the effort and teamwork on display.
“Go Brothers!”
Wattles Junior Rugby League said:
“For these boys, this carnival marks the final chapter of their AV Cup journey together. There is something pretty special about finishing where you helped make history. We hope the legacy they have created continues, with future Wattles teams travelling to Charleville for years to come.
“Safe travels Warriors. Play hard, back your mates and enjoy every minute of the experience.”
