Team of the Week Round 9 - Nicho Hynes shines

Round 9 of the Intrust Super Cup saw plenty of points being scored and plenty of people performing - in particular, Sunshine Coast Falcons gun Nicho Hynes. 

The Falcons feature heavily in the Round 9 Team of the Week as the side continues to dominate and remains undefeated this season. 

Each round, QRL recognises the 17 best performers and name the Intrust Super Cup Team of the Week; these team selections are based not only on statistical data, but also take on board live and broadcast viewings of the games, with the standout performer of the week to be named captain.

1. Nicho Hynes - Sunshine Coast Falcons (c)

What a performance! Sunshine Coast Falcons fullback Nicho Hynes orchestrated what can only be described as a clinic against Souths Logan Magpies, and has since been rewarded with an NRL contract with Melbourne Storm. The 22-year-old was unstoppable with a try, two line breaks, four try assists and 187 running metres in the Falcons' 72-4 victory at Davies Park.

2. Jono Reuben - Sunshine Coast Falcons

Jono Reuben is one of six Falcons to feature in the Round 9 Team of Week. The Sunshine Coast flyer scored four tries and ran for 270 metres, in what was an impressive display of speed and acceleration.

3. Justin Olam - Sunshine Coast Falcons

The PNG Kumuls centre, along with fellow Falcons centre Curtis Scott, will be pushing for a Melbourne Storm call-up after strong performances in Round 9. Olam was particularly impressive, scoring two tries, busting five tackles and running 184 metres.

4. Edene Gebbie - Wynnum Manly Seagulls

The Wynnum Manly Sseagulls fullback is not traditionally a centre, however warranted selection in the backline after another powerhouse performance in Round 9. Gebbie was a standout performer for the Seagulls, with two tries, seven tackle breaks and 247 running metres from 15 carries.

5. Troy Leo - Burleigh Bears

An impressive performance from the Burleigh Bears flyer, scoring two long-range tries and busting seven tackles in the Bears' 48-0 victory over the Redcliffe Dolphins.

6. Christian Hazard - Tweed Seagulls   

The former Newcastle Knights-contracted half has been called into the XXXX Queensland Residents side to replace Billy Walters. Hazard led Tweed Seagulls to a convincing 36-8 victory over Norths Devils in Round 9 with a try and two try assists.  

7. Todd Murphy - Sunshine Coast Falcons

Experienced half Todd Murphy has been Mr. Consistent for the Falcons over the opening nine rounds and was again outstanding in Round 9, registering 24 of the Falcons 72 points, after nailing all 12 goal kick attempts. Murphy leads the competition for points scored (118) and sits 40 points clear of second placed Jamal Fogarty (78).

8. Nat Neale - Ipswich Jets

The 2018 Petero Civoniceva Medal winner cemented his place in the 2019 XXXX Queensland Residents side after a strong performance against an experienced CQ Capras forward pack. Neale played 80 minutes in the front row, scored a try, made 23 tackles and ran for 128 metres.

9. Harry Grant - Sunshine Coast Falcons

The fifth Team of the Week appearance for the Sunshine Coast Falcons rake after nine rounds of the competition. Harry Grant was pivotal for the Falcons, creating several opportunities with his speed and awareness from dummy half. Grant registered 155 running metres from 21 carries in a Hastings Deering Man of the Match performance.

10. Lachlan Roe - Sunshine Coast Falcons 

A huge performance from the Sunshine Coast front-row forward with a try, try assist, 15 tackles and 150 running metres, in just 36 minutes.

11. Kalolo Saitaua - Wynnum Manly Seagulls  

Kalolo Saitaua was another forward who was outstanding coming off the bench in Round 9. Despite playing just 37 minutes, Saitaua ran for 142 metres and scored a try in Wynnum Manly’s 38-22 victory over the Easts Tigers.

12. Jacob Hind - Burleigh Bears

Burleigh Bears edge-backrower Jacob Hind terrorised the Redcliffe Dolphins' left edge with his powerful running game and tackle busting ability. Hind scored a try and ran for 148 metres, including 58 post-contact metres and two tackle breaks.

13.   Reuben Cotter - Mackay Cutters 

A standout performer for the Mackay Cutters in their 22-6 victory over fellow North Queensland Cowboys feeder club Northern Pride. Cotter played 80 minutes and registered a try, try assist, 140 running metres, and 48 tackles at 94 per cent efficiency.

14.  Cooper Johns - Sunshine Coast Falcons 

Cooper Johns was another Sunshine Coast Falcons playmaker who was on fire against Souths Logan in Round 9. Johns set up three tries and was instrumental for the Falcons in their 72-4 victory over the Magpies at Davies Park.

15.  Jamal Fogarty - Burleigh Bears 

The Burleigh Bears playmaker led the Burleigh side to a convincing 48-0 victory with his lethal kicking game, knocking over eight goals from eight attempts and registering 342 kick metres.

16. Ryland Jacobs - Tweed Seagulls 

Tweed Seagulls flyer Ryland Jacobs terrorised Norths Devils with his footwork, speed and tackle busting ability, scoring two tries, busting four tackles and running for 267 metres.

17.  Zac Santo - Townsville Blackhawks

The Townsville Blackhawks fullback has been called into the XXXX Queensland Residents side to replace Jesse Arthars. Santo starred for Townsville with two tries and 160 running metres in the Blackhawks' 24-14 victory over the PNG Hunters.
