Rebuild continues with assistance from government grants

Rugby league clubs and facilities across Queensland have received government grants totalling more than three and a half million dollars to assist with the clean-up, repair and rebuild of community facilities following this year’s floods.

In welcome news for community participants, 15 clubs and league facilities from across the South East and Central regions were last week announced as grant recipients within the Community and Recreational Asset Recovery and Resilience Program.

A total of $3,673,889 was allocated to support rugby league facilities, in a further boost for community volunteers and participants after the QRL-led whole of game recovery project earlier this year.

Whilst supporting the clean-up and repair of facilities, the funding will also seek to improve the resilience of community and recreational assets damaged as a direct result of the rainfall and flooding events across central, southern and western Queensland.

QRL would like to acknowledge the funding allocation jointly funded by the Queensland Government and Australian Government under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, which the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport is assisting to deliver.

“We’re extremely grateful that our clubs have been able to access such significant funding to assist with the rebuild of their facilities,” QRL chief executive officer Rohan Sawyer said.

“It will make an enormous difference to our people on the ground and communities who love their rugby league.”
